Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar Trailer Launch: Anupam Kher Reveals He Passed Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday Without A Single Cut
2 years after Calendar Girls, Madhur Bhandarkar is back with Indu Sarkar, which is set in the 1975 Emergency, the 21-month period from when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi unilaterally had a state of emergency declared across the country.

This afternoon, the cast of the film -- Kriti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anupam Kher and Tota Roy Chowdhury – along with Madhur launched the film’s trailer at a suburban theatre and it packs a punch.

The two-and-a-half minute clip is replete with hard-hitting dialogues and moving performances.

Considering the film talks about the period of emergency in India, the media present asked the director a number of questions about his inspiration from real-life events. He said, “The film is 70% fiction and 30% real. It's a film based on true instances. For example, the emergency did happen, and there are things that happened during that time, which are documented. So those things shown in the movie are real. However, the lead character played by Kriti Kulhari is a work of fiction."

It’s well-known that films which have a political backdrop tend to get slaughtered at the Censor Board’s table. So how does Madhur plan to tackle that? “Well, till now, there have been no issues. And I am hoping that in the future too we won’t  have such problems. The film’s trailer has been passed without any cuts by the CBFC, and I am hoping that wouldn’t have any trouble with the film either.”

At this point Anupam Kher revealed a trivia from the time when he was Censor Chief. He said, “I am revealing it for the first time that when Anurag Kashyap made Black Friday, I was the censor chief; I passed the film without a single cut.”

From the Indu Sarkar trailer, it’s evident that Neil Nitin Mukesh has effortlessly slipped into Sanjay Gandhi's shoes with prosthetics working their magic. “Despite wanting to, I couldn’t shave off my head since I was about to get married. It took 6-7 hours to get them in place the first time we sat down.”

Well, Indu Sarkar trailer has us enthralled. We await July 28, when the film hits theatres.
